Roosters, depending on breed, often get pretty randy around 9 months of age, but their "skill" improves with age. A mature rooster is usually a better breeder and a more gentle and skillful one as well.

Pullets rarely go broody, (again!!! this is breed dependent) until they are around a year old, if they are going to go broody at all.
