Ate a tack

My son took his favorite chicken up to his room to play and forgot that he had a handful of tacks on his floor. Apparently he thinks his chicken ate a tack. Besides his complete foolishness, what are this chickens chances of survival? I've given her extra grit, I couldn't think what else to do...

You will need to just watch her and see, unless you can see a vet. It may end up in the gizzard or eventually come out, but it could also puncture something along the way in the digestive tract. I remember a thread a couple of years ago where a chicken had eaten some screws. One eventually worked it’s way into the abdominal wall showing on the skin surface, as seen on xray. Chickens will eat anything—hardware, jewelry, plastic, glass, or string.
