Atheist/non-religious thread

Thanks to OP for starting it. I feel a little timid about being here and feel a bit as if I am crashing the party. But I am very interested in learning the atheist perspective and getting to know how people think who are different from me. If I only hang out with people like myself, how do I learn? I promise to be respectful and not to impose my beliefs, or to be critical, judgmental or argumentative. Under those terms, may I stay? Mostly I will probably lurk, but I did not want to be sneaky.

I'd also consider myself an atheist. My family is *technically* christian, but we're super far from being considered religious. I'm sorry if this comes off as harsh, but I've just never gotten the point- why do all of this stuff for a 'god' that we don't even know exists? It really doesn't make much sense to me.

For me, I'm fine with people saying "have a Blessed day" and stuff. I don't have issues with people being religious. I just don't want those people shoving their religion on others to the point of it negatively affects other people's lives. Like them trying to pass laws that can be problematic.

Most likely I fall on the atheist side of things. To me the existence of god does not make sense but don’t mind when people pray for me, tell me that god loves me, etc. I’m figuring things out. Maybe being on this thread will help me to do so.
