There are several BYC'ers who follow a Low Carb lifestyle, so here's a thread where we can hang out. Here, we can ask and answer questions, share Low Carb recipes, celebrate our success, or just chit chat.

Quotes from Dr. Atkins:

* It is not true that the only way to lose weight is to limit your intake of calories.

*When you control carbohydrate consumption sufficiently, your body will switch from burning glucose, derived from carbohydrate, to burning primarily fat as its energy source.

* You burn more calories when your body is operating on a fat metabolism.

I am interested in a lower carb diet, but have no idea where to start, what veggies and fruits are bad and which ones are good...

I think I will follow this thread, even though I don't have much to contribute right now.

Here's some very basic fruit and veggie info:

Most veggies are good, except: corn, potatoes, butternut squash.

Most fruits are high in sugar/carbs, but berries are good - strawberries, blackberries, cranberries (not sugary cranberry sauce or juice), blueberries, etc. A very small amount (1/4 cup) of watermelon, honeydew, cantaloupe and cherries are OK.

That's easy enough to remember, now I just have to get through this gardening season with all the corn and butternut squah I have growing.

Thanks though, that's easy to remember - berries good, green veggies good!! Now if I can just put down the bread and pasta (I have traded for whole wheat versions though - hopefully they are not AS bad)

I think I will be referencing that site often. Thank you!

I think I actually have dreamfields in the cupboard right now, got it a HEB!

I've lost almost 10 pounds in 2 months doing nothing but cutting my carbs. I'm not even excersizing, yet. I drink unsweet tea, no cokes, gave up most of the chips and cookies. I eat a salad most days for lunch. A heart of romaine, a can of tuna or chicken, maybe some hard boiled egg, some cheese, sometimes some deli turkey and a little dressing. i have one of those meal bar thingys for breakfast with some 2% milk. I still occasionally eat some chocolate or some chips, and like the other day half a carton of Haagen Dazs but I'm doing good for the most part.

I just KNEW Wifezilla would pop on here!

I'm reading the Atkins Essentials to jump start my diet. I'm on day 3 and have a cold, so the feeling of low energy is affecting me

but I know it's temporary.

This diet also helps you cut out the crap, once you start eating the better foods, you lose that craving for icecream and chips. At least I did.

Thanks TXmom for starting this!
