Julie came to her favorite spot in a shaded clearing, trees circling like walls around her, grown thick with willowy branches that drooped under the weight. She twirled her daggers in each hand, feeling familiar and comforting. Nothing about this place was familiar, although she had learned long ago not to get to comfortable in one place. Things never lasted, and neither did people, which was why it was best to avoid getting too close to anyone or anything. She irritably threw her dagger, aimlessly, not caring where it landed. It thunked into the thick root jutting out of the hard packed dirt, crookedly stuck to the wood. She sighed, brushing her finger across the sharp edge of her second silver and leather plated blade.
