Today we got the rest of the plexiglass windows built and hung, and I began painting the interior. I am using a heavy-duty livestock-safe oil-latex barn paint. I am going to try to paint every surface the ladies will be on, for washability. When we had coccidiosis, our vet said to wash everything down with 10% bleach and repaint. I figure that will be easier to do if I start with painted surfaces.

This build has been interrupted by the diagnosis and life adjustment of another (!!) of our children with Type 1 diabetes. One of the reasons we started keeping chickens in the first place was that one of our children has been diabetic for the last 4 years, and farm-fresh eggs are such a good source of quality nutrition for him without all the carbs ... now, another of our children has been stricken with Type 1, and there are twice as many great reasons to keep our sweet chicken ladies happy and safe, so they can feed my poor little boys!!!

Now that we’re settled and building again, we have finished windows and trim, doors, paint, and interior perches and shelves. We just need to put hardware cloth inside windows and eaves, install window and door latch hardware, and fix a problem with the pen gate. Then ... oh how exciting it will be... chickens can live
