ATTENTION ALL WRITERS! C'MON!!!

The gloomy clouds encased the world in a misty fog, and imprisoned the sun in a gray fluffy cloud. Daniel Starr, perched on a wooden stool, unconsciously gazed out the window and into the grim day; his unfinished studies lay askew on the desk before him. Daniels thoughts roamed every nook and cranny of the earth, from Timbuktu to Massachusetts. Voices awakened Daniel from his dreamy state, “Daniel! DANIEL!” His Mother’s voice cut through the dull silence; Jolting back into reality, Daniel shot a quick guilty side-ways glance at his Mother. “Quit day-dreaming!” She placed a glass of milk on the table in front of him. “If you ever want to graduate you have to do this …this….school!” She gently prodded her ten year old son as she gestured to his school. “Well…I don’t want to graduate! I want to be a Horse trainer!” He smiled a toothy grin and slowly gulped down some Almond Milk. “And travel all around the world training the wildest horses!” He added in-between gulps. His Mother guffawed and pulled up a cushioned Chair. “To do that you need to graduate, learn Math, and a lot of other things like that; now come here……How do you get Nine thousand out of nine divided by six?!” Sighing, Daniel once again was roped back into his studies by Mom.

“Dad is home!” Daniel let out a whooping cry of sheer joy. He raced towards the door, just in time to see his father stride across the threshold. His Dad was not a large man, but he was tall and gangly and extremely goofy.
“How is my boy?” He held out his large hands and dropped his saddle on the couch. “Dave! Get that dirty old thing off of my couch! That’s my couch! Not you’re tool bench!” Daniel was engulfed with a welcoming smell of hay and fresh air, as he embraced his father. “Come on Mom! Let him alone!” He frowned, and shoved the dirty saddle unto the brown wooden floor. “Did you get some good riding in today Daddy?” Daniel enthusiastically pulled on his father’s shirt to get his full- attention. “No, but we still held the lessons in the indoor arena. It was too risky…..there is still a storm watch and my Co-Workers decided that we should not en-danger the Horses.” He explained to the exuberant child. “Oh. Well….ah…when can I take lessons? I swear, I will clean my room for a week!” He begged his Father. Hope came around the corner, as the sun peaked over the ashen cloud for a moment. His Fathers face lightened, and he looked up at Daniels Mother, as if to ask her a question. She nodded and Mr. Starr reached into the pocket of his brown leather jacket and pulled out a crinkled form. On the title it read ‘Beginner Riding Lessons’ and ‘Daniel J. Starr’ was listed under it. The smile on Daniel face could have lit up the world; he stood there beaming with joy, hope and ambition. “Mom. Dad. You are the best parents in the World.” He slowly and proudly continued. “And I would like to give you a gift as well. I have saved this until you guys let me enter the riding school.” Daniel smirked and took off down towards his room. His Mother and his Father exchanged quick glances and followed their son.
