Attention Muscovy lovers

On wing clipping,

I just did it with my two sons, easy peasy.

It was easiest with three people, one child, with gloves, held the Muscovy, the other child held his hand over the bird's head/eyes which totally calmed them down, and I clipped the feathers. :)

The tricky part would be how hard it is to catch yours.

Catching them might just be the hardest! LOL

Herd them into a corner or wait till they go to bed. Then pick one at a time up. I just clipped my 12 week olds last week and I waited till they went into their house then reached in and picked them up one by one and clipped it goes fast. I hold them between my legs while sitting down but I have also wrapped them in a towel and pulled the one wing out and clipped.

Yep totally, I think the more people the easier OR set up a good funnel system with fencing or plywood.

Also....about my three questions and long winded intro....

Do I really need separate night housing for them?

I guess I could put the young male in with the chickens...........

IDK...... Anyone else have experience with housing two males together?

Dianne88, any external pips yet? You should be a mother soon.

I brought my incubator in from the shop and noticed that the Humidity has gone from 40-50% down to the mid-20's. But it is setting MT at this moment.

Anybody know much about the Australian Muscovys that are said to be "Mammoth Muscovys"? Spoke to a lady there and she said her drake was 7.2 kilos which is 15 plus pounds. Is that really big for US Muscovy drakes?

None of my drakes sleep in the open in the houses. They all sleep in stalls, my drakes would not tolerate being close together, these are mature adults though, young ducks that aren't sexually mature the drake may pick on them I would not put my ducklings in with a drake for the night. If you have a large dog crate they work real well for extra bedrooms inside with everyone but safe from harm.

That's a big drake but not unheard of here.
