Attention Muscovy lovers

I'm assisting in the one that piped and I have the shell 1/4 of the way off then put it back in the incubator. This chick has the horse shoe shaped air cell and seems to be a very large chick. It's very lively and pushing around a little, not sure how it would have zipped, it can hardly move with 1/4 of it's shell gone????? I've got it wrapped in a moist paper towel and misting it every so often. Pics soon!

Out but exhausted I see some ting of blood but nothing actively bleeding

The two that I could not see any movement in were faced the wrong direction in the egg and died. The one that hatched is still very sleepy and one more egg that I've seen movement in but has not piped yet.

No active bleeding, I believe this duck was ready to be hatched. I want to say "CONGRATULATIONS!", but we will wait and see what the other three do so we can party or cry depending.

edit:
Oops, I was typing while you posted the above....Could be a bitter-sweet day for you.

I think, because I don't know for sure, since you said the hatchling was big and the other two were facing the wrong way that the humidity was too high and they were too big and they couldn't move within the shell to turn. This Florida weather is definitely playing havoc with us, huh?

My fingers crossed that the hatched one is ok (I think it will be) and the other one hatches.

Any progress yet Dianne88 on the hatched one and the other one?  Wishing the best.
The hatched one has absorbed everything and broken free of the last piece of shell, I put corn starch on its umbilical cord. I'm not sure what to do with the unhatched one, I see no movement in it any longer. I suppose I'm ****** if I do and ****** if I I don't help!!!!!

Well, you are definitely between a rock and a hard spot. No movement? I'll be in your shoes soon enough no doubt.

Went ahead and took a look, it was positioned correctly but had died

I have Solo and he's beautiful!

Solo......great name for it. Sorry about the other three. Now you have another problem......a lonely duckling. What to do, what to do? Solo is an only child. Maybe TSC or someone close will have a newly hatched duck (about any duck specie) to grow up with Solo. The store bought duck you can always sell or give away later. Just a thought.

Dianne88, what was the humidity in your incubator? I know you have high humidity just like here in central FL and that may well be the cause of the unfortunate lack of hatching. Also, were the air vents open in your incubator?

When Solo is all fluffed out post a picture of the little guy.
