So far two clean hatches and one that's...special to say the least and 4 more with pips. My incubator must have been running low because I don't think I've ever had them this far behind. The rest all 18 of them nothing not a sign of life. Should I still hold out hope? For how long?
4 more that look to have pretty good odds of hatching and 3 that have pipped but in the wrong spot and there is blood by the pip hole. This is the first time I've used the egg cartons and the last too if I might add. Didn't seem to help at all only hinder. Question one of the chicks hatched has some balder areas and little looks like bunched up feather balls. Is this possible?
That was my experience with hatching in egg cartons too. My first hatch, I got 4 live chicks out of 11. Three pipped the wrong end and died in the shell. The next time I incubated, I still used cartons during incubation as it made turning so much easier. But for lockdown I took them out of the cartons and laid them on their side.
7 healthy chicks with three more possible as of this moment. The rest I dunno...everyone was alive when I put them into lockdown. I can't keep kicking myself for trying something that may have worked better but I'll sure try.
I'm so sad one of the chicks hatched with the yolk sack and umbilical cord completly hang outside of its body. It's not moving around just sleeping alot and I don't know really what to do other than wait. It looks so tired and worn out and is still breathing. I still have three more hatching for a grand total of 15 out of 25 that hatched. If this little guy doesn't make it that will put me down to 14. I feel for him anything I can do?
I had 6 out of 11 hatch of my Silkie eggs...The other 5 were full term dead in the shell
They seemed to be too dry...I tried a dry incubation and this is the first time I had so many make it to hatch...I wonder if my humidity was a little low for hatching...The incubator ran about 35 % humidity during incubation and I hiked the humidity up to 60% for hatching...Maybe should have raised it to 70%...Wish I could get this right just once!
Thanks for posting I was beginning to feel that this thread was becoming my personal musings
Congratualations! I feel your pain ChickenCrazed but on the opposite end of the spectrum my hatch was too humid.
I had a total of 15 out of 25 hatch and one died after hatching due to the yolk sack issue. I have one more that is STILL hatching! I've never had a hatch last this long....
