August Hatch-A-Long

Pics
I put my quail eggs in today they should pip on 15th- mine is an experiment to see if the store bought eggs will hatch. I was too stressed w my June eggs that I only got 1/6 Easter egger s hatched- and my little singleton Patience died suddenly at 3 weeks and is currently at uc Davis having her necropsy.

Anyway I love quail and since these were supposed to be lunch if they don’t hatch I probably won’t cry.

I did not buy hatching eggs. Just fresh eggs

It will be interesting to see if they're fertilized! Were they refrigerated? Good luck on the hatch!

@CluckNDoodle what do you do with the mixed chicks? do you sell them, cause i feel like not many people would want mixed breed birds. im asking cause i am dying to hatch something but i dont want to end up with a bunch of mixed birds runnin around. lol

Yes, I sell them for less than the pure breeds. The frizzle chicks are desirable even if they're not pure bred though. If I keep them for a week and can identify the frizzles I can sell them for more. I honestly just want one for myself though. If I were to raise them to the point of 100% knowing they're pullets then the pullets sell really well and most don't mind that they're mutts but if I do that then it's more work rehoming all of the roosters unless I go to the local livestock sale. This time of year is definitely not as active as spring though. I can't keep up with demand in the spring so if you're unsure about the demand in your area you could always test the waters in the spring.

I bought a camera to hopefully do live hatches with but now I'm thinking I need to spy on the chickens outside.
Well I’m out of town and have the camera I bought for the guinea nest, so had to decide on positioning on guinea keets or in the coop... Wish I’d picked the coop! Guinea pics aren’t good enough to see anything due to brooder lights, and poor Susan is trying to roost with her chicks in the main coop! Why Susan? Why not wait until I’m home to help stave off the mean girls???:he

I’m just getting used to using bookmarks. :old

:caf

No internal pips yet! I’m kind of excited because the longer they wait the more chance of popping a couple under the broody.

I THINK I’m gonna go for it with this hatch with a couple. If it doesn’t work I’ll be right there to watch. If it breaks her broodiness that’s fine, it’s HOT and I feel bad anyway. If it works.... yay!!!!! Either way, I won’t have 75 ages of chicks this fall.
