August Hatch-A-Long

You're ready for anything with chicks if you've only hatched ducklings!
Chickens are soooo much easier to hatch! You're not going to know what to do with yourself when they actually hatch in a timely manner. Lol

I'm actually looking forward to it ha ha ha ducks are so stressful

I candled my eggs and 4 out of 6 legbars were non fertile or had blood ring. 2 are suspect and I put back in with a ? but the 6 marans have a good aircell and look like something is there, definitely no blood ring. Feel very calm about this. I am hoping for another 3. Any more will be a bonus

Day 12 Marans candling, 4 eggs are looking good and 1 we'll see about.
I also thought I would sneak in some update photos from my hatches in the last couple of months hatch-a-longs!
My last Mottled Orpington (all of which were roos!) is heading to his new home tomorrow! Still watching the Frosted Legbar and Whiting True Blues closely but I haven't seen any definite rooster signs yet!
Last but not least, I get so excited when my friend sends me update photos of the goslings. They're huge now!

That frost is TOTALLY a pullet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I would absolutely put money on it at this point.

I’m chuckling to myself as I’m totally one of those chicken/drug addict memes as I’m walking out to my mailbox. My dealer just dropped the goods on a Saturday night.

A lady I’ve given some roosters to this year brought me some barnyard mix eggs. I don’t even know what’s in them, but heck, now I’m OFFICIALLY in this hatch along to.

I guess I should make sure she takes them.....

I really really hope you're right about the Frosted! I don't trust any of these peeps at this point. Lol! I should have known when I wanted to keep some chicks that they would all be roosters!

Lol!! You and me both! I'm currently on the hunt for multiple types of polish hatching eggs near me. She didn't ask for multiple types...but what can I say? I want to make sure my customers are happy.

Wow - those Marans eggs are tough!!! When I get mine, I think I’ll just wait a long time and see if a chick is filling the egg or not!!! I know I asked this before but, what candler are you using?

Frosted CL is really beautiful - I adore her!!! Surely a her... Whitings look very pullet to me, and so happy in all of your greenery! Goslings are amazing! Are your sure those were the tiny babies that cuddles with you like puppies???

It's a small LED flashlight, 1300 lumen I believe. It has 4 settings and I can't see anything in the Marans eggs without using the highest setting.

But I have somewhere around 40 eggs coming in next week, white leghorns, black copper Marans, and I can't remember the third breed. And we are hatching to sell, so any tips on selling them would be great, I think craigslist isn't enough, no possible buyers yet.
Im excpecting them to be in by thursday, so if i start them on thursday, then hatch day will be August 29th.

I’ve sold a few hatches this year on MeWe. Craigslist is hit or miss, but maybe I’d make a new ad each week of incubation so it’s at the top always?

Craigslist has a lot to do with timing, but also the way you write the ad. And include a really adorable photo. when I talk up “hand reared” chicks (what?) that are “rare and heritage” (okay....) they go immediately.
