August Hatch-A-Long

Pics
Woke to 4 chicks, and at least 5 pips. I guess patience really is a virtue. Who knew? :lau

So far we hatched an Icelandic, 2 silver Spitzhauben and a gold Spitzhauben. Have pips on a Maran, two cream crested Legbars, and a couple of Isbars. I am already not liking the comb size on what I believe to be the Icelandic!!

My Catdance Silkie egg is doing nothing yet. :hit

Time for coffee!

Goodness me it’s stressful isn’t it. I had never been so stressed and have a feeling this next second time won’t be any better. Hope to see them running around soon!

Day 12 Marans candling, 4 eggs are looking good and 1 we'll see about.
I also thought I would sneak in some update photos from my hatches in the last couple of months hatch-a-longs!
My last Mottled Orpington (all of which were roos!) is heading to his new home tomorrow! Still watching the Frosted Legbar and Whiting True Blues closely but I haven't seen any definite rooster signs yet! :fl
Last but not least, I get so excited when my friend sends me update photos of the goslings. They're huge now!

Yayyyyy!!!! Adorable photos!

Speaking of fertilized yolks still in the shell, lol. Does anyone know of a BYC member that sells Polish hatching eggs that isn't an arm and a leg? I bid on some Tolbunt Polish on eBay but I can almost guarantee I won't win the auction at that price. When I look at prices online it reminds me how abundantly spoiled I am with local hatching eggs, lol.
Both of my local Polish chicken sources sold their flocks and I have someone that wants me to hatch some. I want one myself too but I did my usually selling of all of my chicks because I can always hatch more later...well I didn't consider losing both of my connections for Polish hatching eggs. :hit
I'm not sure if she's on BYC but if you search fancy feathers NH on Facebook, she breeds polish.

Congratulations! I've never hatched upright. What is it you're using to hold the eggs?

I know Capricorn Farm has had Polish but not sure if she sells eggs. You can ask her though, she's very nice and I would definitely buy from her if they were my breed of choice.

That is who I got my Showgirl, 2 Polish, and an adult Orpington from. The Polish are a frizzled buff with some lacing, and a gold/black with a bit more lacing. All are cockerels. The gold is the prettiest of them all.

If it were me, I probably wouldn’t futz with lacing unless starting with really good ones. Bad lacing doesn’t look flashy at all, and I even think it can detract from looks, but that’s just me. Good lacing is just so beautiful!

Cut down egg cartons. Although, I may not have cut down as far as others do. They kept coming apart on me, so I was conservative with my cutting.

It kinda looks like thats what you did. So are you happy with the results? I'm going to use an egg carton for turning, I've done that before, but lay them down to hatch.
