August Hatch-A-Long

Pics
Um, im a bit nervous, I've got 39 eggs in my little giant 4250 model, and I just walked into my hatching room, and the thing was unplugged, im not sure for how long, but when I plugged it back in it was at room temp and at 92% humidity, there is no way that these eggs are gonna survive that, they've been in there for 4 days now, they're too young for that kind of spike, right? And please, don't be afraid to speak your mind, the truth hurts sometimes, but its still the truth.
I think it’s unknown since you don’t know how long..... but it’s not like you never pay attention and it clearly wasn’t 24 hours.

Also, at any stage, cooling is better than a heat spike. Crossing my fingers for you!!!!!

The 3 I had to hand hatch because they were still stuck in their eggs.

Maybe I should have been a little more patient with this guy, he had just pipped when i went to sleep and was in a zipper pip when I woke up, a few hours later I didn't notice progress but he may have hatched on his own by noon. He is stuck to the egg shells and could not get off his back. When I hand hatch I put the shells back together (as much as I can) and force them to break out so egg shell is often still attached to the chick fur. I removed the egg shell right after the picture session. He should be OK.

This little Serama is wearing a shell suit! he was running around and eventually falling down because of the shell. I removed most of the shell and any bet of material that had his wing bound. I do not remove all of the egg shell or membrane material just enough so he can function. It falls off on its own and that way there is less chance of causing damage to the chick by me pulling a bunch of stuff off in my clumsy manner.

Here is a view of all 3 that are left. I had 3 dud Serama eggs and everything else hatched. I posted numbers earlier but I had missed an egg (that hatched) so my numbers are different than I said earlier. I already forgot how many hatched. Not going to lift the brooder plate to count them until tomorrow. Its their first day so its best to leave them be.

There's always hope! I have seen eggs hatch under some terrible conditions. I mean, I just had an egg hatch that had been incubated outside in the nest box without a broody hen for 3-4 days and it hatched perfectly healthy even though I forgot to take it out of the turner and it pipped while rolling.
You may have a lower hatch rate, but I wouldn't be surprised if your hatch is completely unaffected. Fingers crossed! :fl

Thank you. I remember reading about that egg, that's crazy!

Thank you, and tbh, I really don't pay much attention, I will now, but I try to just set the eggs, and forget they're there. I have done alot of hatches, and yet even now, the anxiety will kill me! So, it COULD have been off for 24 hrs or more, ugh, now im just worrying myself.. :barnie:he:th:oops:

Is there a chance you never turned it on???

I had to lift up the brooder heating plate to adjust a leg. I hatched out 9 chicks out of 12 eggs going into lockdown, the 3 that did not hatch were seramas which always have a high rate of duds. They were likely dead before Lockdown but I am not great at candling so I can't really tell. Its that short leg fatal gene... I think. Not sure when they die with that gene. One Naked Neck is still in the brooder, he isn't walking so he isn't leaving the brooder. One of his wings looks goof after the egg membrane stuck to him. I hope I did not break his (or her) wing when I hand hatched him. I need to clean my incubator but he needs to walk before I can start in on that.

I'm sorry you have a peep struggling. Is it not walking because it's weak? I've never had one that didn't walk but I've had really good results with using Nutridrench to perk up the slower starters. I hope it pulls through for you!

it was just the last to hatch, still to early to think something is wrong. Although I may have hand hatched it a bit early but it was going to need to be hand hatched anyways because I opened the incubator to let all the hatched ones out. He may even be walking now so I am going to check... He isn't walking yet but when i stand him up he stays standing for a while before he falls down and looks like a turtle on its back. Slowly improving. he still has a goofy looking wing but I won't know if its anything serious until he feathers out I guess. All seems well to me other than this guy takes longer to move to the next stage of development than the previous birds who are running around a brooder now.
