August Hatch-A-Long

Has anyone seen anything like this? This is my aug 1 hatch chick. I have not noticed any pecking at all. First the tail, and then I turned her around and the feathers coming in on her crop are also bloody...

Do you think she rubbed them on something?

Should I separate her or just watch? Vetericyn?

Vetericyn, yes! (I assume that’s the anti bacterial spray that I buy at Running’s without looking at the name. lol) It could be that it is getting ingrown feathers. My Polish has a problem with that frequently. I’d keep an eye on the chick. Also, I have a couple that make themselves bleed. It must be a bit of an itchy process as the feathers come in for some?

:-( I had to let my sick hen go today. Such a huge, huuuuge bummer. Im thinking of moving my orpington hatches from the 1st out with mama and babies to give me something to do. We will see if she loses it, but I think I can get them some easy protection. Ill update later if I try.

None of the hens seems to have a problem with the babies of mama, anyway. She lets two or three of them around them freely, but keeps the others at a little distance, but they aren't interested anyway. I think it will be fine.

I’m so sorry to hear that! It’s hard not to get attached.

Well, I just locked down my lonely BLRW and 2 barnyard mutt eggs that are goin to hatch on Sunday, after that, i have 2 serama eggs (which arent looking good) "hatching" on Wednesday, then more 4 BLRW eggs supposed to be hatchin Thursday.

Hey all, with August ending and in incubator partially filled with guinea eggs, I’m wondering if any of you have joined a September hatch along? If so, which one?

She is MUCH better this morning. I'll keep popping in and checking.

I think you're right, its probably itchy, and being that she is my singular Wheaten Marans that IS a pullet.... she is probably just EXTRA high maintenance. Par for the course for me.... she will fit RIGHT in.

That's the cutest thing ever! I love it when they hitch a ride but I've never managed to capture the moment!

I couldnt catch a photo ever but my CCL chicks would jump on my labradoodles back and ride round. Ridiculously cute. A friend saw it too and that’s my only proof!
