August Hatch-A-Long!

Its only day 6 but I decided to try candling one egg to see what I could see. The air pocket seemed bigger than I thought it would be this early, and I could see veins coming down from the air pocket, but I couldn't see anything else. It was a lighter colored Marans egg so I guess that isn't unusual. Now I am nervous about candling any more as I was advised to wait till Day 10 or risk killing the eggs... hm. Maybe I will just rearrange them in the bator tomorrow by type and mark them with numbers so I can keep track of what is what and who is who. I will have to candle a couple though as I've promised the boys they could stay up late to see what is inside the eggs.

You won't kill your eggs by candling them, don't worry. The air pocket and veins are a sign if life, that is a good thing to see.

Alright... I'm in for August! Going to try something different this time; modified my incubator for more floor space. Selecting the eggs, stabilizing temps... This will be interesting :)

Hi everyone! Decided to start up my styrobater for the 2nd time. My first hatch was in April and was a blast! Set a dozen in, at day 7, 3 were not fertile. So had 9 remaining and all 9 hatched! Now I have 7 eggs from a hudan hen and an unknown roo. Hatching for my sis in law. So exciting!

I was talking to an older customer (I manage an auto parts store) about it being hot and tryn build coop and pen for my chickens I hatched when he told me he had about 70 head and usually sells eggs. When I said I hatched mine in homemade bator he was surprised. Said he had commercial bator but never had any luck. Couple days later he brought me a dozen eggs to try lol I started them this past Sunday. Remember him saying RIR rooster but can't remember other breeds of hens. But they are large brown eggs. See development in some tonight

Day 7
Candled tonight. 5 have great development
6 look clear
One looks scrambled or something. No air cell looks almost like lava lamp little balls floating around havent seen this before.
