August Hatch-A-Long!

Maybe splashes?
Im not sure could be !
Were supposed to be Porcelain but when the breeder came over and looked when I told her seemed like paints she wasnt sure what they were She said a paint the color spots go to the skin and mine didnt seem to but they still have the spots but light ones compared to the real paints I got from another lady but I love the paints best so im not complaining!

Whats the diff between paint and splash ? more blurred edges? I dont know.
I like splashs too,. I have a part english Orpington hen that is a splash
She only cost me like $60 or $80 in hatching eggs to finally get her ..LOL.
Kept hatching out black! (They were BBS eggs so I KNOW shes splash)

my silkie just went broody i am going to put egg under her tonigth this is her 3rd time so i think she will be fine with alot of eggs what would be the largest clutch you would put under a silkie could i fit 5 large eggs and 2 of her own maybe would that be fine she is the silkie in my profil pic the only silkie hen i have i have a silkie rooster aswell

Im no silkie expert but I will ask a lady I know that is but I think she puts a lot more then 5 eggs under hers .I think your safe with 5.
I will check with her on how many she can actually handle.

LATER..MY SILKIE EXPERT SAID YOU CAN PUT 8-10 EGGS UNDER A BROODY SILKIE
OK here is my sad story..............
lol.png
I always get myself in these messes.
I had a chick hatch with only one wing.....................sweet thing..was doing fine being brooded alone.................(never out of my pocket unless my DH held her.)
She was not very interested in food. thought getting another chick may encourage her..............They only had Silkies at the feed store.................. bought two.grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
Very cute, very friendly. Thought I would just sell them but now I am hooked..................so had gone to the Silkie thread for advise about keeping them........
I can certainly understand how people get hooked on these little ones..........Still do not know what I am going to do..............
HAHAHA you sound like me
I wasn't too interested but a friend had them and so many ppl like them a LOT I hatched a few eggs out..3.
Then you get so attached to them they have this magical draw !!!
Now I have the 3 and got 3 more from a lady when I needed a chick to be a friend of one Lavender Amercauna chick that hatched alone. The silkies were closest in age WAs getting just one ...she gave me 3 paint chixs FREE...SO VERY generous b/c I had given her a cockrel.....( Id almost have PAID her to take him!)
SSOO NOW I have 6 paint? silkies.

Hello all!

I thought I'd join the hatch-a-long. I have a batch due Aug 4 or 5. I set 8, but I think only 2 are fertile. I'm giving them 3 or 4 more days before I chuck the duds. I'm using a bantam cochin broody named Phantom. This will be her first hatch :)

Willow
Great to have you Willow! I like your broodys name Phantom

23 Bantam EE eggs are officially set!

Now the waiting game...man I just set them but since this is my first hatch I'm so excited and nervous nothing will hatch. How can you all do this multiple times a year? It would kill me. lol Something tells me I'm going to be checking on them dozens of times a day if not more for the next 21-ish days...

Yeah chickenfox I ask myself that many times..... WHY am I DOING this to myself ?am I nuts?
Wait until day 18 and 21...you need nerve pills or a big drink of some kind you are so nervous!!
I guess it a sort of high like skydiving scary and fun and exciting all at once.
And like gambling too..... how many if ANY will I get?

you can see loads on day 2 allone i check loads just to see how the embro grows i just trew does 2 out and i was rigth they were not fertile
COOL. to see so early! .. .. my eggs are tan and I rarely see a thing early plus I like to know for SURE before I throw any out in case I was wrong which I have been now and then. You can always throw them out but cant put them back in the egg if you open and find they are alive! LOL

Hey Niccole
Glad the eggs are doing good so far!!. Makes me feel happy my chooks aren't letting me down.
Sterling is mean but very fertile and Meanie the LAM roo is too!

That is true...funny the way you said it but definitely something to keep in mind before assuming nothing is happening inside.
