oh no how sad. I guess peafowl are quite difficult to hatch and raise how often do they lay? Good luck for the others in lockdownI have 4 guinea and a peababy in lock down...had a chocolate bibbed/pastel mixed call duck hatch in the middle of the night! it's so sweet...named it coco...in devastating new our 9 day old peachick was passed this morning...no apparent reason!
That is great news about your shipped eggs. I think I an going to stick to local eggs only in the future myself. Sorry about your little one dying this morningthe 19 and 20 are big hatch days here and I have a lot of hope in these shipped eggs they look amazing inside and no wonky air cells! lavender am lav orps silver and gold laced silkies! how amazing to candle them a think they have a fighting chance at a good hatch![]()
Quote: we were so attached to that baby...we've been studying up all day about what could have happened...even though we don't really know what happened and we did treat her special cause we know how vulnerable they are...we will still do a few things different when we get another chance! she was from shipped eggs...so her birth was already a miracle! I have 8 other eggs in the incubator that aren't due until the end of the month so between those and the one in lock down we hope to hatch another! but I'll always be blessed for my 9 amazing days with little Jade!
LOL yeah, I still have all 13 chicks from July's hatch. All marans hybrids. I'm going to hang on to them as long as I can so I can take pics and post them here in case anyone is curious on what marans hybrids will look like. I REALLY wanted to have a marans x leghorn but it's just not going to happen. Her eggs are always duds, and I know for a fact that the roo is doing his job. You've heard of attachment parenting....this would be attachment chicken keeping! Lol, I would certainly do it!
I'm tempted but I might have to assist these last 2... I really don't want to assist - have done it before, it's just... the anxiety...Aww, poor little guy wants some lovin. I am a sucker for their loud "I want out" cries...I bump the humidity up and grab fast!
I did have a couple that hatched in July that are a silvery grey color. One was from my "RIR" I put in quotations because I have no idea what she is, the hatchery sold it as RIR but someone in the July thread said she looks like a New Hampshire Red. (or she could be a red sex link)... any way, the other was from my black sex link although this one is like a charcoal grey.my blue splashes both Amercuana and splash marans throw all blue chicks when bred to a solid chicken. When bred to another blue chicken it has been splashes or blues.
his first crosses were Black Astrolope , red rhode island red. All chicks hatched were blue in color..
What is a wonky air cellthe 19 and 20 are big hatch days here and I have a lot of hope in these shipped eggs they look amazing inside and no wonky air cells! lavender am lav orps silver and gold laced silkies! how amazing to candle them a think they have a fighting chance at a good hatch![]()
