August Hatch-A-Long!

Yep same chick almost dried out. It's chirping loudly now. Very lonely. I could technically take it out (been 12 hours) but I'm hoping it makes so much of a commotion that another one starts pipping soon. It's so hard to resist, I know it wants to be near me. When it can't see me it chirps very loudly. & looks through the vents trying to find a place to escape.

Aww, poor little guy wants some lovin. I am a sucker for their loud "I want out" cries...I bump the humidity up and grab fast!

I gave all of my baby chicks (2-8 days old) fermented feed for the first time today. At first they wanted nothing to do with it, but I left it in their brooders and they devoured it! My chickens all eat fermented feed so I want the chicks to eat it too.

I said brooderS because I separated the chicks into two sections because the 8 day old regular chicks were running around like kindergarten kids knocking over the toddlers (4 day old Silkies and my 2 day old TINY homegrown chick). My homegrown is the size of my smallest silkie chick,I don't know why she is so small.

Everyone is doing very well except one silkie that may have neurological issues...she attacks her own foot. She still eats, drinks, is growing, but in between that she frantically bites her foot...mostly the right one. I have examined her, there is nothing wrong with her foot or leg. Will be keeping an eye on her.:/

I have eggs under two broodies right now--should hatch the 17th. Two of the eggs are marked BO, so I'm guess that's Buff Orpington :)

Good luck!!

Thanks you too are your eggs shipped or your own mine are shipped hopefully they will still hatch thou

Guess who decided to hatch at 3am?

Dad: blue splash (copperish?) Marans

Mom: black sex link

Fuzzy butt: splash of some sort. Has a grey dot between its shoulders

It had a tiny vein attached to the brownish grey blob that is usually left on the shell. I did a "no-no" & opened up the bator (it was 10% higher than I wanted anyway) & dabbed it with iodine.
On day 17 I took everything out & disinfected the bator again. *fingers crossed* things go smoothly. It's day 21 today. 2 eggs to go! I will be surprised if they hatch, hopefully one will more will hatch or this thing will be in a sling across my chest for the next 24-48 hrs lol

my blue splashes both Amercuana and splash marans throw all blue chicks when bred to a solid chicken. When bred to another blue chicken it has been splashes or blues.
his first crosses were Black Astrolope , red rhode island red. All chicks hatched were blue in color..

I put 5 fertile eggs under a broody hen I when to check her today and there were 10 eggs under her
