August Hatch-A-Long!

The canning jars are thermal ballast (insulation). I added them to help keep the temp more stable through the day, and it really helped tons. Now I just hope this one is rallying the rest of them to make a break for it.

At least you got a chick so far! I would reccomend putting a little more padding perhaps? But I like that setup! Warning: if you ever purchase a commercial incubator, try to stay away from 'Brower' Incubators... They work ok but are very touchy and their thermometers are way off...

We've had the power go out a few times in the last 6 months. Never for any more than 30 minutes, so I was a bit worried about there being no heat source at that point.

They are BCMs and Wheatens, all from Garry Farms in GA (bargain on BYC).

I just built a bater with a 420 egg capacity. So far my temps have run at about -1 to +1 degree over and under 99.5 deg. I also have an auto turner and 3 CPU fans. I have spent only in the ball park of about $100. I am thinking about drawing up the plans and posting on here. I have pics if anyone is interested.

Incubators...I went from the cheaper Hovabator to Genesis 1588. then got a second,. I like them but ... now I wish I had one Brinsea
Seems like ppl on here get really good hatches wit h them every time.... Foolproof hatches
. Only down side is the small one is I think $150( like the Genesis) but only holds 6 eggs I think the Gen holds 42..
However was thinking often I get 4-6 chicks of 12 eggs so just set less and get almost perfect hatches seems like ppl get 4 or 5 of 6. in them without a hitch.Id feel better about expensive eggs in it for sure .
Just a thought.
