August Hatch-A-Long!

I have a homemade styrobator. My temps with my first hatch fluxuated between 97 and 104 (yikes). I had sat a dozen eggs. 2 were infertile and 1 was an early death. The other 9 were successful hatches. I am currently in my 2nd round. My bator has hovered between 97-102 consistently (yaay), I sat a dozen eggs. 2 were early death. 5 have hatched, 3 are pipped externally and 2 pipped internally on day 21. I wouldnt worry about the fluxuation too much :) Just make sure it stays pretty consistent.

You give me hope that I won't ruin this batch. I still feel horrible about my first one.

Really? The temp can cause extra toes? That's just....weird. That was something that never accured to me. I have a digital thermostat being shipped to me from Hong Kong. Not sure when it will be here but I'm hoping the water thermostat will work until then. The new one has a probe and is SUPPOSED to be accurate to +\- .1degree.... Guess we'll see when it arrives which I hope is very soon. Thinking about extra digits gives me the wigs...
Imy first hatch I had an Amaricauna and a Sultan both had 5 on 1 on 6 on the other. Unfortunately, both those guys along with a few others have died from something that i havent figured out just yet. I think it was viral. I still have 9 babies in quarentine now until i am sure that i have gotten rid of the source of the problem.

I
I have 45 mail order eggs in it now. This will be my first hatch with it so i dont know what the hatch rate will be. But based on comditions so far, I am certain i will have as high as possible with the eggs being mail order. All the same though, wish me luck. After that 2 of 51 hatch, i would propably loose all hope if it happened in this new bater.

Wow I hope this one works out better for you. Hope you get lots of fuzzy babies! :)

Nicole doesnt sound like a cat..... pulling it thru the bars more like raccoon
They are wiliey ive hear and do that.
Sorry to hear it.!! Cat might paw it and scratch it don't think it could do what happened there.
Good luck on the new chicks!
my daughters ferel cats pulled a 10 week cochin bantam up to the 1 inch hole in the wire and pulled it apart. They had to put smaller wire around pen. the cats got smart would cirle the pen one on each side when wait until they got close enough to hook with there claws. Darn cats fat as pigs she spay or neuters any cat she trap. Just killed for the fun....

Your welcome, I hope my hatch goes good too! I put 13 in and I haven't had much luck last few times- my thermometer was working bad and the incubator was 10 degrees higher than it said it was and last hatch, a storm came through and took out the power taking a few of my chicks with it :(
