Yeah, I would have been more mad at the dog, intentianally killing a rooster is NOT acceptable. My dog did that...she was in big trouble, now once in a while she will try to play with them...but she hasn't gotten one since.
It is so wierd...my cats don't care about chicks or chickens, in fact I witnessed my young buff chasing the cat, neck feathers flared. Huh, what a wierd buff. My dog is also quite wierd..she will pick up a chick, set it down and start rolling it with her muzzle, she has never killed one though.
I would not reccomend it...Heidisgran, Sweetappleacres and I have assisted hatching and usually results in a weak tiny chick...

As long as the egg is moving or making noise its doing good :) let it have all the time it needs. I assisted mine because they had piped over 48 hours before I touched them and the eggs had stopped moving.

400

Is this a pip? Or is it gonna explode????? I'm due to stop turning tomorrow so I was candling them today and I didn't notice it at first till I candled it omg I hope it's not gonna blow up

I started breaking into the shell little at a time, convinced it was still born anyway. I saw a small bit of blood then the inner soft covering was beating! i stopped, made sure the humidity and temp were good. Set it down with air pocket up, it rolled, adjusted and stopped.
Happy Dance..I think he just needs more time. I think all is good. His name will be Late! LOL fingers crossed as i won't be able to keep an eye on him for the next 4 days. maybe he will decide to make an appearance by the time I'm back. I won't be tempted to help anymore that's for sure.

Yay! One of cochin x egger eggs has piped! And the other 2 are still shaking their bjtts off! Aaaaaaaaaand in my other incubator I have 35 eggs to candle today. Its day 5 but I'm too excited to wait 2 more days :). And I'm so naughty....I added 5 more 2 days ago bringing the total to 40.....
