I've read first week 95', lower 5' each week, when coolest part of the day falls in that range they can go out. But I am paraniod and I keep them in until they are big enough to fight back. My oldest were sleeping in the laundry room until they were 3 months because the coop wasn't finished. My last ones were 4 weeks. How long do you keep the chicks indoors before you move them outdoors or with the rest of the flock?
the U shape is most likely because they are shipped?? not uncommon! it sounds to me like they aren't due yet! what are you hatching?I just candled them and 2 of the air sacs had a U shaped dip in them. The other air sacs look good but I see a lot of veins, no movement and the dark areas only take up about half the space.
And ideas?
Quote: I move mine to "the play pen" during the day, it's covered, at 2 or 3 days old if they are strong and thriving then bucket all my babies into their coop at night, the big guys have a separate coop. the brand new ones and bantams have a separate play pen than the larger older babies like my ducklings. I just moved some 2 week old chicks into the bigger baby pen yesterday and the ducks are giving them a little grief. I'm still watching that in case I need to separate them, which I don't want to have to do then I mess up the pecking order, I'd rather they work it out the first time...
the last of my guinea keets and a little roo are moving to a new home tomorrow![]()
