Yeah, "Get all the brooding out of the way at one time...." That is what I keep telling myself, LOL! A bunch of my mutts will be going to my BF though if they hatch OK. So it isn't THAT bad. (Anyone buying this??)Haha, me too! I am hoping the chicks will arrive about the time my incubator eggs hatch.
I just read a few threads and the first thing is to immediately turn off the turner. You will have to turn the rest by hand according to what I am reading. I read to keep a spray bottle handy to mist the eggs if you need to raise humidity after turning. I will keep looking for info for you and hope someone more experienced chimes in to help.CAN SOMEONE PLEASE HELP?
I decided to try a staggered hatch, in the same incubator. So I had eggs in lockdown that hatched, while I also had eggs in the egg turner still developing. I have had the humidity high for almost a week now.
Well my first batch of eggs hatched. I just checked on my second batch that's still in the egg turner. I saw two pips! Lockdown isn't supposed to be until Thursday. So this is day 15. How is this possible? What do I need to do, leave them in the egg turner or move them to the hatching tray?
Thank you so much! Here is a thread that might help https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/643475/staggered-hatches-help
Oh no - fingers crossed! You ever have one of these days? My kids saw that one of the two broodies had 2 chicks hatch so they moved the eggs out of the nest that the other broody was sitting on. Aaaaaaahhhhh, the eggs were out of the nest all day. I stuck them back under the hen tonight. The eggs were supposed to hatch in the next day or two. If they don't hatch I will take her to the fair where we will have the incubator and I will give her some of the chicks we hatch. How could they do that to a Leghorn! Two of my broodies are sharing a very large dog crate and they have been doing well together. They were both given eggs on the same day so they would hatch at the same time - maybe not the best idea but it worked good up until today.
Yay! You should join the hatching party! ^_^
