August Hatch-A-Long!

I am still waiting for the rest of my eggs.

The ones in the incubator all look to be doing well. They are EEs eggs and some white Silkie eggs.

The July ones hatching under my two broodies I am hoping are doing well ,I leave them alone to do it their way. They have a better hatch rate then I do 90 - 100%.

Oh that old PO rarely on time.
I know broodys 90-100 % ..and so much easier
.I wouldnt even bother with incubating if I had enough broodys for the eggs I need to hatch out when I need them.Dont do one thing.

Did you paint the picture? I like it a lot !! Rockwell-ish.

So true. The farmer has to face you the factory doesnt.
OR they could just be too old too
Might have sat there in the factory  too long before shipped  to sell

Oh and FYI it WILL get too addictive!! FOR SURE
I have only seen one or 2 ppl in lots of hatch threads that didn't hatch at least one or 2 more times.I
its such  fun to chat and  commiserate with others in your same boat and  share Hatch Day with others as excited. Its as exciting as the hatch itself   ...that first chick..its like you feel like god..you brought a chick into the world from just a little ol EGG.
Its unexplainable.
So it all drives you to another hatch
And if someone wouldnt get any(like I didnt my first TWO  hatches) it drives you to try again until you get a chick!
.

This made me laugh.... This is my first hatch, and I also have more eggs on order that should be arriving just after these are finished cooking, LOL

No I just google waiting for mail and though it was quaint.

I remembered the PVC "Fort" I made my boys and currently had stored in the shed. It's something like 5' x 8' x 6' and I think I can frame it out with wire/aviary netting/coroplast and make a pretty cool area for them. I also stuck some wire bathroom shelving in there that isn't being used and would be a good play ground for them. I should also be able to hang a feeder and waterer from it

And the heat lamp can be in one corner where I have a 3 sided double wide milk crate I can set up as a nesting area. The whole thing will be on our screened in porch. I think this should work really well!

Put up a pic of the whole thing!!
Will it be too hot for them ? or arent you getting that record heat like Az did a week ago?

YEP! Gets to you fast.
You gotta have your "collections"
Dont want to scare you but I started with 11 chicks... all bought.
Then later sold a few as my tractor became too small for them all
I had 8
Then started to incubate as i wanted Lav Orps and couldnt find any ..Long Short... now I have 23 grown. ( and have sold quite a few to pare down ) 15 more small ones all diff ages.8 diff colors or breeds AND im trying to be conservative LOL
Some of my hatch friends are up to 100 in that same time period so I dont feel TOO bad.
so BEWARE!!!
