You probably wont miss a lot if You go to the dog show. It takes a while to hatch and when you come back you will have a suprise maybe and maybe sTILL have to wait so I say GO...On hatching day for my 4 eggs (August 17th) happens to be this dog show (for all dogs) that I go to every year. I really don't want to miss the hatching of my hens chicks or the dog show. I'm so disappointed. I was looking forward to both of those things. ughhhh!
I wouldnt worry about feeding them manually for 12 hours anyway even slow poke .Could choke him if he breaths it down his lungsSlow Poke is out his shell! He was completely pasted the membrane but all the yolk and blood was absorbed. His navel was protruding a little so I dabbed corn starch on it help dry it. He is very tired, hope he makes it. I made a concoction of warmed egg yolk and sav-a-chick probiotic and electrolytes powder and scraped a tiny bit into his beak. I will give him a little more later.
I still have 3 pipped eggs and 4 with no action. I suspect the 4 are not viable anymore, but we'll see. So I guess that means we have 13 hatched of 20 so far!
Aw, sorry about your little one.Lost the little pip from yesterday. It pipped the wrong end, but seemed to be doing fine, lots of noise, and was zipping, so I figured I'd be ok to go to bed, got up this morning and it had only zipped about 2/3, but no noise, no movement, took it out of the bator to check and it was dead. Really malpositioned, both feet behind head, wings kinda to the front, like the legs pushed them forward. Wish I had stayed up now, poor little guy. The yolk wasn't absorbed all the way either, but the blood vessels had receded fully. Still 2 eggs to go, it's officially day 21 here! 3 little babies have already been moved to the brooder!
Well I drilled in to the air cells of the 4 I suspected were gone (does anyone else just feel it in the weight/coldness??) and indeed all 4 had died due to malposition and never pipped or had stopped developing a little earlier. All 3 left are pipped and one is zipping. So I think we will end up with 16 of 20 on my first hatch - I feel extremely blessedI wouldnt worry about feeding them manually for 12 hours anyway even slow poke .Could choke him if he breaths it down his lungs I know you are trying to do all you can to help out but its better to let nature takes its course as much as possible Even the slow poke they don't even want food water that much for hours , after they dry anyway.and they always rest after they are out for awhilte some are more chipper than others andtakeright off others lay around a lot. .... VERY tired ...it was a hard job to try and hatch! They SAY they can go 3 days without water or food as the yolk gives them the energy to be strong so id let them do whats natural unless something goes on too long wit h them I wouldnt put anything else on the navel as it might not be sterile and could give him an infection . .They dry up after a while even when wet or even a chunk of hatch junk trailing off of it...One of mine this last time dragged the shell with him for about an hour or so then it fell off.. It all drys up When dry and stiff if it doesn't come off ok to cut it off..... once stiff and dry... but I would leave them alone until then... see how it goes. Sometimes trying to do the best for them to help might harm GOOD LUCK on Slow Poke!!13 of 20 is awesome!![]()
