August Hatch-A-Long!

day 5...either it's further along than that or you should keep it as far from the others as you can...if it's a dark shell are you sure it's not the yolk you see or do the other eggs look very different??

When I went out to the Hensly Palace this morning, all the other hens were in the house, in front of the two broodies intently staring at them. I can only assume they hear some peeping or activity that I cant hear (day 19). I have a piece of fencing closing off the nest boxes so the babies cant fall out and the others cant get to them. The nursery house and enclosure are all set up. Now just wating for action!

Here is the link you all are looking for.

http://www2.ca.uky.edu/smallflocks/sex_linked_crosses.html

It is for specific birds bred to show this characteristic. I did it on my chicks just for fun. It shows that all of mine that just hatched are girls. But they are probably not one of those specific breeds so I can just pretend until someone crows, LOL!

I know mine aren't sex linked in any way, but I thought it would be a fun and kinda cool way to see. By this method I have 2 girls and a boy so far. We'll see how it works!

And I still have nothing.

DeannaA: What day are they on now? Did you have major temp drops during the incubation period? And do you see movement or hear chirping?

I'm almost tempted to tell you to candle one and find the air cell. Pip a little hole and see if you can determine if it's alive, shrink wrapped, etc. But I'm not a seasoned hatcher.

They are still moving. No internal pips. The eggs themsevles were causing large spikes in temp then droping back down. Going from 100 (where it was set) to 106 down to 96. All within 2 hours during the18-21 days. There is still a lot of clear liquid in there, so I am fairly certain they have not dried out. It's very frustrating. They were at 24 days at 8Am. There are still large blood vessels in the egg. Most of the eggs still have space at the small end. They look like they are still at day 18. I was convinced my themometers were off, so I canged the batteries. Maybe the batteries were bad even though I bought them that day. And the batteries all came from the same package, so maybe they are all off the same amount. I had a fifth, different kind, I usually use to verify but I can't find it.
