August Hatch-A-Long!

My quails are due to hatch today. I haven't lifted the lid once. I can't believe it. Before I put them in I tried to candle them but too many spots. It looked like at least a few were good. No pips so far.

7 out of 10 eggs have either pipped or cracked the surface and ready to pip. Maybe tomorrow morning I'll have some peeps to goo over

We're on day 14 here and the anxiety and excitement is kicking in! I've weeded out many and have 9 left of the 15 I started with. I think it was 15 lol. I added two into the bator that I found in a nest yesterday, they had veins starting and one had a little movement. I'm on pins and needs for the 21st!!!

I am the same way...I was thinking my mothers birthday was Tuesday and my stomach jumped because I thought "oh know that's a hatch day" but her birthday isn't until Friday...glad I don't have to miss my 73 yr old moms birthday lol

While I am waiting for my current batch to go in to lockdown soon, thought I would share some pics and updates from my recent hatches.

Here is my first chick hatched, Sunshine, she is 11 days old and weighs a whopping 4.8 oz! She is a big girl, and so are her sisters. I still don't know for sure what breed she might be, remember she is from my mystery hatch of store-bought eggs.

Here is one of my Silkie babies 8 days old weighing in at 1.4 oz...such tiny little things!

And here is my Super Tiny homegrown chick that came from a really small egg, but from two regular size chickens (although they are both young). She is yet unnamed, waiting for the grandkids to visit this weekend to name her. She is as small as my smallest Silkie chick, and weighs less them all of them...6 days old and 1.25 oz!

They were so awesome to stand still on my scale, its the only time they are still, lol.
