August Hatch-A-Long!

I know how you feel....I candled some cochin bantam eggs last night and they look awful...it was day 6 and there were only a few with any veins but also crazy air cells that moved the veins when I turned the egg to look at it! and not only was I disappointed in that but I thought about the money wasted

While I am waiting for my current batch to go in to lockdown soon, thought I would share some pics and updates from my recent hatches.

Here is my first chick hatched, Sunshine, she is 11 days old and weighs a whopping 4.8 oz! She is a big girl, and so are her sisters. I still don't know for sure what breed she might be, remember she is from my mystery hatch of store-bought eggs.

Here is one of my Silkie babies 8 days old weighing in at 1.4 oz...such tiny little things!

And here is my Super Tiny homegrown chick that came from a really small egg, but from two regular size chickens (although they are both young). She is yet unnamed, waiting for the grandkids to visit this weekend to name her. She is as small as my smallest Silkie chick, and weighs less them all of them...6 days old and 1.25 oz!

They were so awesome to stand still on my scale, its the only time they are still, lol.

Cute little buggers!!!

Never thought to put up pics of what I had already hatched this month.....can't post the one CCL from the July hatch, she is largely feathered in now, and doesn't look like the little fuzzy I hatched. Also need to post updated pics of the GL Brahmas I got from Jacquie, may just do that to my page though......so many babies!!!!!

I think about how many eggs I've gone thru for the 4 chicks I've hatched so far. I've probably thrown out over 100 eggs. These are some darn expensive chicks. But I think it will improve.

Pipping towards the bottom of the egg and when he peeps I can see is lower beak moving but towards up top. I labeled the x where I thought he'd pip but he's down towards the bottom.

Must be the poor picture quality, because that looks like the top of the egg. How has he progressed since you posted this? I have been working and just catching up now. :)
