Aww...you ahd to cull two too! So sad...I think I'm done assisting. I figure if it's meant to be it will be. When I culled 2 and then mentioned to my husband about the little runt he said "that's enough Dr. Kovorkian."![]()

Sometimes chicks just don't thrive. I had 2 of my silkie chicks die on day 3 for no explainable reason...they just did not thrive. I had one more that looked like she was going to die by morning (her day 4 or 5): not interested in drinking or eating, weak when standing, hanging her head down, smaller than the others because she wasn't eating like they were, therefore not growing. I added electrolytes to the water one more day (had only given it to them the first three days. She was alive the next morning to my surprise and was much perkier. They are almost 2 weeks old now and although she is still smaller than the others, she is doing just fine. So sometimes the lack of thriving is just so random.
I tried to do the toe one, the chick wasn't having it. It took many atempts to get this one on. For awhile I just rubbed her feet out straight slowly to get her used to it. I'd put her back in the brooder then bring her back out to rub her feet. They improved so much just from that. But if I put the boot on before going to sleep. I didn't want to lose any progress. This is terrible to say b/c they do have a problem but that black chick ...with the bad toes?...the shoes ...he looks so adorable with those shoes on.!! I know yours has the same but cant see as well...
I feel hearts over my head like this!!why is that SOOO adorable to me?Ive seen it many time before on chicks and every time..... hearts..
.is it just me?![]()
the gloves on the toes...how did they do that? those wiggle feet.!!I have a hard time with the ankle things on mine...EACH TOE? Whew!!
I did the sugar electrolyte thing it worked ok but when I started using this, bought it at Tractor Supply, it was soooo much better. I have never been able to get any of my chickens or chicks to eat yogurt of eggs, scrambled or hard boiled. I've tried save-a-chick too. The Nutri Drench is sooo much better. I add it to my chicks water until they go outside. I decrease the amount as they get older. I don't use as much as the bottle says. I am almost oout and Tractor supply hasn't had any in a few months. I hope they get it soon.I like that " executive decision" dont know what liquid drench is but i always give mine some water with a little dab of boiled egg and a tiny pinch of sugar (Like sugar added as ups their energy) and sometimes one or 2 crumbles of food..but its got to be all liquid not semi . It does give them strength
I give it like every 2 hours unti l they are better or at deaths door.
Tiny bit at a time. Dont choke him. Vitimin B cant hurt.I do the poly- vi-sol NO iron when i have it. in mine too
the callus or swollen joint? i think is some malady not sure what but you might look it up later,. Yes i dont know how anyone carries a bator in the bathroom but some do!
My eggs would be rolling and smashing everyplace if i didnt drop it first . Killl 10 to save one! LOL.
I rub her belly until she falls asleep before I work with her foot. She is such a cutie.LOVE when they sleep on their backs! Precious!!
I've read it is a riboflavin deficiency. I add liquid B vitamins to their water and I gave her a bit extra when she was born. I hope this will help her heal.Odd what with so many curled toes and bad feet today? Moon phase?Makes you wonder
I sniff it. If it doesn't stink I put it in but I put it on the other side, away from the ones that look healthy. I have heard bacteria can transfer to the ones near infected egg.Yeah so freaking excited candled a few of my eggs and they are full and I see movementThey go into lockdown on Friday and I think some are no good but I'm afraid to take them out for fear that they are good and I screwed up
but I don't want them to explode. I can tell the difference in them thought they are not as full but I think I still see something in them I don't know what to do I have one that looks like a bloodspot I guess I will just let them all in and hope they don't blow up I would be devastated if I took one out cracked it open and I was wrong. But I am so happy that I see movement Hopefully I will have a few hatch as this is my first hatch![]()
