August Hatch-A-Long!

My newest picture but theres probably more chicks by now. It took me awhile to read and catch up. So far, 8 hatched and 7 pips.
I had so many chicks running around I miss counted. I have one more than I thought. So, 13 so far. But still no Buff Orpingtons or silkies. Off course they only just hit the 21 days mark 30 minutes ago. And 4 more pips.

Have you all ever had a chick born with an overgrown beak and long nails? I've always noticed Pips nails were long compared to her hatch mate but as I was watching her trying to eat today I noticed she was having difficulty. I looked at her beak and the top portion is much longer than the bottom which might explain why she's smaller and thin compared to Nugget. How would I go about trying to trim or file it? Or can I with her so young?

Just use a dog nail clipper, carefully clip her nails, and watch the bloodline, if she bleeds, get a cloth or Cotten ball or clog it with Vaseline. Don't put her back into the brooder untill bleeding has stopped. Then wipe off Vaseline.
I would be very careful with her beak...

I have just been to lock my chickens and ducks in and now there are 5 empty egg shells around her nest. So exciting!!!!! Up to now I have only used an incubator and this is the fist time. Have hatched with a broody!!!

Yeah, I have a broodie, who was outraged when we tried to take a egg from her nest, she would make an out raged cluck, her neck feathers puffed up and she would peck my finger if I got too close :)

This is a the mystery chick that hatched 2 weeks ago. Her wings are so cute and sooo big. They are so much bigger than she is. I'm still wondering what she is. I forgot what you guys thought she was. Possibilities are Sebright, Serama, D'uccle, Cochin, Frizzle, Silkie. Obviously not silkie. But could be a mix of any of these. Her wings actually are larger than they appear in the pictures. Maybe a frizzle Serama? She is still very tiny.
