August Hatch-A-Long!

Well my hatch has been going on Since Friday...and the last one (I think) is coming out shortly Almost all the way pipped. Headcount is 11 and the zipped guy if he makes it will be an even dozen.
Had a LAM make a small pip on Friday but never did hatch
.I have found they generally pip a star crack then wait for about 12 hours before more but this has been almost 2 days WAHH
Im not giving up on the last eggs left in there though ..who knows.... its just day 22
Day 25 ill get rid of them.Only bummer was one poor little Lav Orp made a small pip but never did do more or hatch

After 15 hours I zipped him last night but he was dead. All and all
this has been a good hatch so far .

I think may be about 6 eggs left in there. not hatched.Always a few never hatch for me..

Well, Day 22, was getting very frustrated. 1 hatch out of 96 eggs(with heat problems starting day 3) I did a quick candle of the remaining 45 in bator. Don't worry, open door grab 2 eggs candle and back in bator within 12 seconds, doing all eggs temp only made it down to 97.5 for about 4 mins. then back up within 2-3 mins. humidity never made it below 56 and was back to 65 within 2 mins. Lots of near clears that I missed at lockdown. many dark only filling 2/3 of the space not taken up by air sac. opened up 2 of those and found 2 chicks that looked like they were within a day or 2 of hatching but no movement. Not sure if this means they were dead before I opened them? 25 left in incubator, I guess I'll leave them till day 25. Hatched chick finally lost it's umbilical cord that was attached to the shell that it was dragging around. How soon should I remove the single chick? it hatched at 6AM and lost the cord at 7PM. worried about leaving it in there for another 3 days waiting on his siblings.
I usually wait no more than 24 hours after they hatch then try and get them out. They say they can go 3 days no food or water but I think its easier on them if they are out earlier as long as they are DRY .
I wouldn't try to get any out if you have any zips or nice pips just wait a bit see if they hatch ...but if you have none of that going on yet spray some water in with spray bottle to raise the humidity temporarily and grab him quickly .
Often mine hatch day 22 especially if you get some low temps here and there so don't give up yet! Maybe tonite!!!

Congrats to epm 15 of 15 WOOOWWW....and chickarooo congrats on babies and any one I missed

Vintage....
how excited you must be .!!!Ive heard the serama are hard to hatch.
Saw my first serama baby chick a couple weeks ago I think a few days old and STILL so tiny it got lost in an egg hole in the egg carton so I bet you are thrillled....one day im doing seremas..Too cute not to!!.

Since they will be the last eggs in the bator I think I WILL leave them actually. Hopefully it will be pretty obvious by day 18, LOL!
My eggs for the most part are very dark and its why I candle day 17-18 before I discard as by then they are all dark... or not.NO guess work So many ppl on here have reported opening one they thought was dead and..... OH no! a moving live baby!! I did it once myself
Scary to hear a "dead" chick peep as you open it up LOL.

made my morning rounds this am and the 2 chicks with my broody's are well and looking strong despite a mild spraddle leg and the other chick having been stuck to mommas foot and being trampled on. I also noticed another hatchling

. So I decided while she got up to drink I'd clean out the old shells and eggs that looked bad- one egg had zipped but never made it out and the other had a large abnormal looking crack in it so I assumed it was bad too BUT it wasn't! I heard a peep from within it as I turned to walk away. We placed it back and awaiting it's arrival. I'm so glad 2 hens are sharing the duties. While one is now tending to the chicks the other is still setting on the eggs waiting to be hatched. Such good mommas. And GREAT team work! Yay me!!!
