August Hatch-A-Long

Hmm, maybe you thermometer is just a smidge off even though you calibrated? I had pretty much the same conditions as you and my chicks are hatching almost 2 days late.
The only other thing that comes to mind is maybe you have cooler places in your incubator (other than where your thermometer is sitting). Do you use a turner? Did you move the eggs around so they could be in different spots in the incubator? Even if you didn't, I'd think you'd still have some hatching by now.

I guess I don't really know
But I'll be :fl for you and your chicks!

I have 3 ifferent thermometers in 3 different spots and lowest reading is 100, highest is 102. the thermometer on top of eggs (probe) ready 101. This is my first hatch, hopefully they didn't quit on me, on day 18 they were very much alive and moving around. When i shines my light in yesterday I could see some still had veins to obsorb. I bet I have a pip by tomorrow ;)

Hang in there... I bet they are working on it : )

Here's a little sneak peek for all of you hatch-a-holics out there. I had to open the incubator and take these guys out, they were SO loud! My incubator is in my laundry room, which used to be the walk in closet in my bedroom. Even with the door closed all I heard was PEEP, PEEP, PEEP all stinking night long! But they're super cute, so I can't be mad at them

And, remember these guys?

Well check them out now! Two weeks makes a huge difference!

They make the new babies look so small, but they're being very gentle with them. That chick next to the small baby is actually covering 3 of the newbies

More pics to come, I've got 3 more fluffing out in the incubator and others still working on hatching

I am happy to report that 2 out of my 11 chicks have made it. Sadly about 30 min ago I was so excited one of my other silkies was hatching he zipped nearly all the way around in about 2 hours, but got really active the last 10. I went to take a shower hoping to come back to a new chick and it had died right in the shell. I got my fiancé to confirm and he told me it was for sure dead.. Does any one know what could have happened? He doesn't appear to be stuck to the membrane. And I'm having a hard time deciding what to do with his poor little body but I have to get rid of it so it doesn't begin to stink or become a bigger problem to the other chicks. My fiancé had to go to bed but since its 2 am I don't know what to do with him until the morning.

So upset :( its now day 25 and nothing else is happening with my other eggs. I'm very discouraged and I feel like its all my fault for not double checking the temps in the begging I just believed the little giant was correct and followed the instructions

I am sorry you lost your chick...

I understand the discouragement! For my first hatch I followed the directions I found online and after 28 days, none of my duck eggs hatched. It was tragic at the time. It is hard when the learning curve takes tiny little lives, but I really believe that we are brave for trying!

I find that with each hatch I learn so much... so if you try again sometime, you'll already have this experience to make your next hatches better and better.

Enjoy your two chicks... I can't wait to see them!

Also... I bury my eggs and chicks that don't make it, it just feels right to me. I wrap them in a paper towel until I am able to take them outside.

Think he was a little worried when I said I had 17 eggs that where looking good....LOL If I could just win the lotto..lol Hopefully I will have more places soon and my big chickens get along good. Good luck to all that are hatching!!

I woke up to 3 sets of beady eyes peering at me through the bator window. Still hoping a couple more barnevelders hatch. Today is the 21st day and they've been hatching 3 days now. I still hold out hope.
