August Hatch-A-Long

Awww, sorry about the ones that aren't developing. I had 4 that weren't either. YAY for wriggling babies!

Sooo exciting!!
I too just candled, and still have 8/8 babies going strong on day 14! They're running out of room in there now, but I saw some little movements and great veins.

Thank you!!! And YAY for your eggs all going strong

Five little quails run around like they're not real, two did zip, but one just cannot get rid of the shell and I can do nothing about it, the other one started to hatch. I have another one that zips along the long side, so its position must be wrong. Only 30 left.

Lots of pips. I have to wait, though. Cannot open the incubator. They are tiny! I just cannot believe the sound they make.

Well it was day 7 for my second batch of eggs....not very good

. I figured they might not be since they shipped them in a small box and didn't send extras and were five days shipping. There are 5 that are questionable but nothing I saw moving. However, I rechecked the other 16 eggs while I was doing it, they are day 9, and I have 9 bouncing babies and 2 I'm not sure about. I have 2 with detached air sacs, 1 blood ring, 1 I think is clear and 1 looks maybe scrambled...not sure about that one( could only see from the side or other end, solid dark at fat end). So far not bad! Great first batch of eggs, not good second group. Welcome to all new to the group and good luck with all the baby chicks and quail. I will be leaving mine alone until day 14

Yes...shipping is so hard on eggs
sad.png
But it does sound like you have a good group still going strong

The 2 with detached air sacs, just make sure you keep them fat end up until lockdown. I have read to leave fat end up in an egg carton(foam) but not sure how the hatching works like that???? I too am not touching my eggs til lockdown now

or at least TRYING!!! LOL

lol Thanks...So here comes the dummy in me...If they do have detached air sacs and start to develop, I can possibly still count them in? I guess I better read more...and recheck them... a lot of the second group have detached aire sacs. I was looking at they wouldn't develop and just put them back when I saw the floating bubble. I didn't toss any eggs though, I have a hard time thinking of throwing them out...lol None of the eggs are smelling or weeping, so I figured I wouldn't toss till closer to lock down.

Yes they definitely can hatch so don't count them out! just keep them fat end up

These have less chance of developing, but once they start and make it to lockdown they can hatch. I am trying to get more info on when they hatch, do I need to watch for anything special/problems so will update you as I find out

lol Thank you so much! I'm trying to read up on it to. I'm going to keep my fingers crossed that maybe some of the second bunch will develop since so many of them were detached. Guess maybe I should look at them again on there day 10

I'm taking a break for a few...for sure they can hatch but I read a very good thread and they said you need to keep the humidity low...then I read another one saying that if you have large air sacs your humidity needs to be higher...I think I have both ...lol Not sure what to do but think I will just leave them be for now and recheck second group on day 10 and the first group on day 14 and just go with it...I will keep them in a carton for hatching if any make it to that point

Thanks and yes, I will, I made some moving pics.

Now we're stuck at 8 and nothing seems to be happening any longer. I see all those pipped eggs and know I have to be patient. But I think I'll take the fluffy ones out and put them in a brooder, because they are crying, screaming and begging me to take them out. I can hear them in my bedroom.
I'll take them out in a couple of hours. They run so fast!

Tomorrow will be day 18.
