August Hatch-A-Long

I did finally candle my eggs the other night. I just never got around to posting the results. I'm still unsure of a few of my blue and green eggs. I had 11 definite duds that I pulled out. I'm incubating eggs from fairly new layers, so that doesn't really surprise me. It looks like I have a 1-2 girls that haven't gotten friendly with the boys yet. I keep eyeing my extra eggs on the counter and the extra space in my incubator... but staggering my hatches that much would be bad.. so I'd have to set up one of my other incubators to use as a hatcher.. and if I'm going to have to set up a second incubator, it would just make more sense to fill it with all 4 dozen eggs that are sitting on my counter, right??

lol...too funny! Sounds good to me! Its a good thing I don't have more incubators and eggs, I would be doing the same

Got a question. Does taking eggs out of incubator, that are quitters, change your temp at all? My temp was great till I took 7 eggs out and noticed an increase in temp

I think I have it back to what I want but have more I will be taking out tomorrow and need to have an idea if that is the norm. Thanks for any help!

Is it possible the temp in the room got warmer? The only time my incubator really fluctuates is if the room its in does too, in which case I adjust the temp in my house and leave the bator alone. Mine usually goes down when I remove eggs, since I have to open the bator (obviously :p ).

Just a thought, glad you're back on track!

Give it time. I got my first incubator (and turner!) for Christmas last year. I never hatched an egg in my life before this year.. For my second hatch, in February, I drove 1.5 hours each way to pick up 2 dozen hatching eggs from someone that had breeds I wanted. When I got there, she offered to sell me the other 2 dozen eggs she had for an additional $5. I came home with more eggs than I had room in the incubator for. So I bought a second LG, though I did not splurge and buy the turner. The chicks from that hatch are all grown up and laying.. So right now, I'm hatching their eggs. :)

A few weeks ago, I bought a used lg, plus turner, thermometer, and hygrometer for $20. That incubator will probably just be for parts since it has seen better days.. But I really just bought it to have a second turner. Lol. I'm super prepared for spring now!

It shouldn't.. But as the chicks grow in the eggs, they'll start generating some heat too. It's not uncommon for that to raise the temp slightly. An increase in room temperature will definitely do it too.
