August Hatch-A-Long

LOL, good luck! I still have no signs of hatching, and I just sit & stare at still probably dead eggs hoping to see a wiggle...

Ahh, I am sorry, I know exactly what that is like...

No one made it out of my first hatch and it was heartbreaking because I was very attached to them. Honestly, I believe this hatching experience is meaningful on many levels and even though my eggs didn't hatch, there were many amazing gifts that came out of the experience.

6 pips now... must find something to do besides staring into incubator!

Lol. That seems to be my only pastime too!! Right now there are 3 kids with their heads locked together over the bator window as one of the ducklings hatch, the first one! They have already requested a day off school and it's not even 7am yet. My 9yo woke me excitedly about 10 mins ago. Little did she know I'd been up most the night with them!!!

Way to go! I think it's like watching water boil. As soon as you look away, it happens but if you watch it takes forever! ! We're hatching buddies today...I have another trying to make its way into this world!

6/7 left have all pipped. They are getting a bit knocked around. I was trying to get the brooder set up and realized I only have a 60W or 240W bulbs... hmmm... I was thinking 100W would be perfect. It is 90 degrees here today. I wonder if the peachicks would notice if I swapped theirs out for a 60W. They are sensitive creatures ; ) I probably should have sorted this out before they started hatching.

So my final count- Out of 13 eggs set in the incubator, 11 were fertile. All developed, made it to lockdown and all 11 hatched! Chickies are contentedly exploring their brooder and napping. Pics tomorrow, I hope.

The sad part is the incubator is now clean and put away for the year. My girls are starting to molt and my egg count is going way down. So I'd better stop hatching or I'll not have any eggs to eat!
