I am so happy she made it out, I was really worried about that one![]()
You and me both!! But I could see her pattern of working in the wee hours of the morning and thought I'd give her another day - she hatched at 6.30amthere are now two more working away at their pips today, not started unzipping yet. Faith doesn't like being in the incubator OR brooder alone so she has been with one or the other of us all day!
Of course, the children were allowed to stay home from school today, much to my father's disgust
...how funny was it then when I rang the school principal and he was really positive about it being a 'real life learning experience' and was happy for them to stay home![]()

5 chicks hatched!! The other three are pipped, one might be starting to zip.
I just got my son to stay and watch the last one hatch. It took a little patience but he loved it! I think I have two full Speckled Sussex chicks so far... a full Copper Maran chick out of a very dark egg, a Welsummer and Maran mix ( I think ) which is the prettiest silver color and from a lighter Maran egg, a yellowish chick... maybe Maran x Speckled Sussex.
I have the first two in the brooder already... it was mayhem in there, babies laying on the thermostat sensor.... climbing on the eggs. I think I'll put all the babes in the brooder tonight and let the 3 eggs hatch when they are ready. I can't regulate the temp if they are on the sensor and I don't want anything crazy to happen overnight.
It has been a big day and I think I'm running on adrenaline! I think I'll eat some food and go to bed! I bet the others will hatch by morning or at least by the time I get up![]()
I'm glad the other eggs are coming around too! It's midnight here, just turned my eggs in the bator for the second the last time, in the morning they will get turned and go into lock down. I hope they hatch, I have had awful luck with these shipped eggs. Well off to the shower then to bed, goodnight.
