August Hatch-A-Long

This is the coop I got for free on craigslist! This is the craigslist photo. It is all cedar and has a nest box on the other side. My back is not in the best shape after getting this thing home... but it was totally worth it! It is cuter than it looks in the photo! I'm putting it in my garden : ) It will be crazy cute with a bunch of Seramas in it!

Well I had a turner...lol I will say, I didn't turn it on for the first 5 days since they were shipped with bad detached air cells...other experienced people recommend not to turn for 5 days on shipped eggs. Maybe I should have plugged in turner sooner. I will say these second groups of eggs that I just put in bator, only 2 had detached air cells so maybe I should plug in turner. I think I will let them stand for another day or two and maybe just not go 5 days.
With mine, I was advised to shift slightly for the first 5 days...not a full rotation just maybe a quarter turn back and forth. But then again, my shipped eggs didn't hatch either so not sure if this mattered

I think the mail may have been to rough on mine because I had one broken egg and they were packed really well!

I am sad to report that my little chick lost his struggle for life around noon today. He was very alert and active at the 4:30 AM check, which gave me some hope. But when I looked in on him later he was lethargic and just went down from there.

Oh, I am so sorry

At least you did everything you could to help the little guy and keep him comfortable...but still breaks your heart to lose him

How exciting!!!!!! Congrats and good luck :fl   It is such an amazing think to see!!!!!!!! I have been hatching for years and it NEVER gets old...LOL

Thanks! I always used the old broody hen, so I'm happy I finally got an incubater. I've been likr glued to the little window fighting the urge to open it!

I just have some barnyard mix, from our chickens, 25 left from 29. I want to get better with the incubater before ordering some salmon favorella (not Sure on spelling xD, cochin and maybe a few EE

I have two little Seramas in the brooder... in addition to the two under my Frizzle Hen. I think they have settled down finally, they really wanted out of the bator : ) So tiny and cute! I have two more coming soon, hopefully not for a day or two... I'm exhausted!
