August Mystery Egg Swap . . . . . Sign Ups Open!!!!

One of the guys with quail lost power this winter. He put blankets over the Bator to keep the heat in and I think it worked out ok. Good luck. I used to live in Florida , so I know what it's like. One summer we had a hurricane like every weekend:p

I think i remember a summer when we had hurricanes every weekend. It was 2004. We have a gas stove, a hurricane lamp and a ton of candles and flashlights going for us. I think the plan is if we loose power Im going to try and find a friend that does have power and take my bator over there and plug it up.

We had a storm here a few weeks ago. Lost power for 4 + hours. I had 200 something eggs in my Dickey and 20 something in the Brinsea ( I use for hatching). I had 2 broody Serama hens, I stole their mutt eggs and put the pipped, zipped & hatching eggs/chicks under them. Lost 5-6.

Covered the Dickey with a blanket & waited.

My 1st hatch after the power failure was 14/19 shipped Seramas, then 19/23 shipped bantam Wyandottes etc.... I have been extremely lucky

My plus side in this is that it has been so hot and humid, probably would have been a disaster if it was winter. Temps in the Dickey was 89 degrees by the time the power came on.

p.s. I put those stolen mutt eggs in the bator and hatched 4/5 in the turner, since I had no clue when they were due.

that Irene passes, I suspect if FL get a direct hit, it will be more then 4 hours without power.

We have a big generator we plug all my incubators into if the power goes out, but sometimes the pick-up truck that has the G in the back is gone, so we put them in the stove that has a pilot light. It stays about 110 in the stove, so we crack it open then it stays right around 100.

Ms Fluffy puffy the thought about the pilot light stove, I thought about because my mom tells me to rise my bread in there I was just didnt know how hot it got. im going to put a thermometer in there and see.

unless your husband goes out and buys you one of those ones that the pilot light wont work without power/electric start

I use the hot hands things for hunters and winter times. Keeps my hovabator right at 100o with three of the small ones in there. Not the greatest alternative probably but better than nothing.
