hello backyard chicken world!

i am in the process of building a coop and run, looking forward to chickens in probably a week or two. new friends with feathers and fresh eggs, can't wait! i also have big plans for a compost pile, a garden, neighborhood food community, world peace, all that good stuff.

i live here in east austin central texas with my husband, a huge dog, a little dog, a cat, a guinea pig, two rats, a snake, and a betta fish. we have designs on being urban farmers, and are inspired by all the people already doing it. yay slow food!

i will have tons of questions, and have already gotten tons of good information from this forum. thanks for being here!

anticipating avian awesomeness,

Is El Azteca on E 7th still open?

si si, dear ranchhand! it is near the school where i work (for the moment). good salsa there.

hello again chicken peeps!

this IS a friendly forum. how nice to get all the welcomes from all over the country! (is it weird that i almost typed "coultry?")

i will be posting some pictures of our coop-in-progress soon. and i thought of a newbish question:

all these adorable brooder pictures with adorable chicks are making me think about starting with chicks, as opposed to pullets. as a complete beginner, is it better, do y'all think, to start with adolescent hens, as opposed to the babies?

they are really cute...........but i hear super messy. but wow, really cute.

i would appreciate any feedback. and i already appreciate all the good vibes!

pre-bwak,
