Not nasty to me, but they freerange and have just got really nasty to the next group down. They have been good up till now, but the hormones are a-buzzing. All five of them were in on the 'fun'. Don't other breeds do this? I thought it was a 'cockerel/male in every species' trait. I kept one blue wheaten as a replacement for my roo, and he is wandering around on his own, at a bit of a loss.

Yeah they do usually. Like luke said they normally grow out of it. My two roos thought it would be fun to attack me so i was worried it may have been a marans thing. The two boys i have now are lovely sweet boys and I am hoping to get a nice blue from yours to keep as well.

In time, but they were kept to process anyway. So, it's time. They would have killed the young cockerels, and they were chasing the young pullets around too. Just in the last few days, they became unbearable. Then this morning I pulled 3 of them off one of the young boys, then they turned around and chased another one down. If I kept them in a bachelor pad, they would be ok, but I freerange, partly because it keeps the cost of their food wayyyyyyyyy down.

I do hear stories about them, but my blue boy is so sweet, he even makes the girls bed for them. The young ones haven't been handled a lot, but they have all been good to handle so far. No aggression toward me at all.

Supposed to be. My partner was going to do it, but I have been telling him for two weeks that they are ready, and nothing has happened, so rang up a friend this morning. I was going to stay and help, but he said I could come back and pick them up. Sounded good to me!! If we are going to process in the future, we will have to get our heads around it. I can't kill anything, though I could have killed the little s....s this morning. (cept I can kill foxes) It is the practical thing to do, to process them. They have been nearly totally freeranging for about 2 months, and have hardly cost anything to raise from that time. I had imagined they would be eating more and more as they got older, and I thought that it would be too expensive to raise them. But it isn't, and I know exactly where this chicken has been and how healthy they have been raised. And they have had a great life until D-Day.

I have no problem killing chickens. But then again I am an evil teenager!
When do you kill foxes? Do you go hunting?
If I wasn't raising Leghorns dad said he would be interested in raising some rooster for the table but Leghorns really aren't good table birds.
