Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

FANCY THOSE PICS ARE AMAZING! More excited than ever now for my 36 silkie eggs to arrive on Tuesday!

I use petroleum jelly for their legs but mix in sulfur powder, then i spray their beds with mite spray, normally used for bunny hutches.. Vet said spraying each chook around the belly area with front line is ok.. Orrrr there's that dig in the dirt stuff like lime powder but not lime powder because thats poisonous lol all very confusing!

My poor girl who's being treated for a prolapse vent has started loosing her feathers around the area, I am not worried about it for now as it will help keep the area clean. Once she is fully back to normal what's the best protein to help grow new feathers, cause the poor thing is going through a molt too. I know cat food is good but have to be very careful because of the salt levels in it. Is there an alternative to cat food that helps feather growth??

You could try a turkey game bird mash. It's 20% + . Quinoa is also very high in protein, but a little expensive for chooks. Don't forget the sardines in olive oil, good omega 3 .

Ash, what insecticide do you use and do you dilute it?
I buy a liter bottle of cheap insecticide from the supermarket. The oil dilutes it.
In the garden section you can also buy oil based insecticides used to spray plants.

The old traditional treatment for scaly leg mite was sump oil mixed with kerosene.
Most of these remedies work by smothering the mites.
I add insecticide to the oil just to be sure.

Luke I usually dry hatch most of the time as it too humid here the pump hardly ever goes off.
For.moulting hens Chilli is good too. I use. Vaseline or I dunk their feet in vegetable oil for mites.
