Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

Hmmm. Good luck trying to get rid of cross bred roosters.
I have dozens of beautiful pure bred roosters and I can't give them away!

yeah, its gonna be hard, I think i'll put an ad in the local paper, a fair few people around town actually do want roosters (probs not crossie though...)
but I will feel bad if I just have to put them down cos they are really friendly :( what breed of roos do you have?

Heya!

Sorry soooo rude! I'm outta town and only got internet in my room.. If Rexy wants a full dozen then go for it! I wouldn't be able to keep the chooks after I get them to 8 weeks healthily, I'd have to re-home so Rexy if you want to keep them then you're welcome to em.. I'm just happy to do the test for Luke

Either way let me know! As mentioned I'm outta town for work for a bit and will have to get to a bank which wont be until mid week.. So send off Rexy's first if you like..
No, not rude at all

. It's all ok.
Ok I'll send @rexy 's off first then see how your going.
I don't mind that you will have to sell them on, perhaps one will be able to be irresistible to you and you get to keep it

Quote: x2 You can probably only give them away, or grow them out for food.
I too am finding it real hard to sell of my three White Leghorn rooster Ash.

What do you do if you can't sell or give them away???

Lucas, I either sell them as purebred or give them away as dinner. I do not give them away as a purebred cockerel. There are usually people around who will eat them. I have just been looking for someone who is happy to take them as soon as I can sex them, and hopefully the lady who answered my fb ad will be happy to take them as I hatch them. Much easier to hatch if you have an outlet for young boys.

I rehomed 4 Roos , sold 2 silkie Roos for $15 ea and 2 blue laced red Wyandotte for $50 ea last month. Cross breeds are much harder to rehome but I have done it in the past. The problem with bantams is most people don't even want them for the pot.

We sold all our roo's pretty easily, but now we have another purebreed for sale and he's just not going.

We are going away for a couple of days so we need him sold or freezer camped by Friday. He has pecked my wife, and tried to peck me and chased Alicia's grandmother yesterday, so putting him in the freezer is easier than it was 2 weeks ago when he was all 'nice n stuff' to be around and we wanted to re-home him.

Perhaps everyone one has got one of your roosters now and can't take anymore hahahaha.
I wouldn't know where to start to eat my own roosters.

I always sell my purebred blue and black Australorp cockerels very easily and they always go to very good breeding or pet homes.
I find that I will get no enquiries for a few weeks and then all if a sudden I get more buyers than cockerels available! Last time I could have sold the last cockerel four times over lol. I generally start advertising at the age of a month and a half and then by the time they are 4 months old they are sold.
Not sure if this is due to my location or the breed but my Blue and Black Australorps are always in demand.

Yeah our 'Lorps sold pretty quickly too, but both went to people that 'just wanted the big ones'

I don't have a problem with eating our extra boys, I would just rather money for the feed kitty than the work of processing. Otherwise we would be buying chicken meat from Woolies, at least this way I can be confident I know where and how it's been done.
