Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

I'm so pleased that our run is nearly finished. We just have the top to cover in mesh and finish the mesh that will be attached & buried along the bottom. Can anyone tell if the Heritage Long Lay is a roo or not? It the white on above and the white one on the right in the middle pic. It hasn't grown a comb at all (looks like something has gone wrong there) but has large legs & is in charge of the others.

Certainly doesn't look like a roo, no redness to the comb. Maybe it is just top of the pecking order, someone has to be. Often the chief chook will show roo characteristics. Great looking coop!! :clap

Thanks Rexy. We repurposed the kids playhouse & that has turned into ongoing modifications & fixes so although the run part was lots of work to put up, I think it will be much less work in the long run. Thanks for the feedback on Hedwig. I've been so suspicious of her because she's the only one that's a bit different. Maybe the big legs are characteristic of her breed which I think is a cross with leghorns.

Woo hoo it's a dry day today! My poor chickens are very glad to be out and about. Ive been acclimatising the "babies" by leaving the heat off them at night and putting them in a cooler room of the house. Hopefully I'll move them outside next week:)

Looks like a pullet to me. Probably going to be alpha hen.

This is the time that everyone needs to look out for signs of disease in their flocks,
as chickens will invariably drink from  filthy mud puddles instead of their clean water containers.

Yes Michael , and with all the funny humid weather there will be a lot of mosquito around. So disease like fowl pox can spread far and wide.

Think I am gonna hide the incubator somewhere where I'll forget where it is lol Trust me, I do that alot :)

Black Orpingtons are amazing but alas I have got enough roosters myself.
Are you sure they are roosters? The pictures are real hard to see but they don't look to rooish. If you can get some better more close up pictures I am sure I will be able to help.
