Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

Hi everyone :frow
I am a first-time chicken Mumma, and I think I am well on my way to being obsessed (oh, who am I kidding, already there! Lol)
I live in North-west WA, in a town called Karratha. It's pretty much always summer here, and gets super hot, so I will be on the lookout for great ways to keep the girls cool.

Chooks are fairly hard to get hold of up here, and there doesn't seem to be much choice in breed. Good thing I'm not picky :) Last week I picked up 2 Isa Brown's who are one month old. Went into mad building mode (as of coure I got the chickens BEFORE I built the run...doesn't everyone?!) Then somehow came home with 2 more chicks, these ones 10 days (also Isa browns). Not quite sure how that happened   So now there are 4.

I got the run and coop finished today, and all 4 girls seem very happy in their new digs. They seem to be getting along well, and the babies snuggle up to the bigger ones. So cute
Being in a fairly isolated town means that it is quite hard to get supplies, so I will be trying to do as much as I can with what I have, so fairly old-fashioned upkeep and feed.

Anyway, just wanted to say Hi :D

:welcome

Huh? But right on the top line it says that the Invermectin acts apon the GABA which destroys cells etc?
and the it says.
"In both cases it blocks the transmission of neuronal signals of the parasites, which are paralyzed and expelled out of the body, or they starve. It also affects the reproduction of some parasites by diminishing oviposition or inducing an abnormal oogenesis."

Also have they run tests on this, because in some of the information it just says that symptoms, or effects etc have been reported, which could mean unreliable sources?!

Sorry, I'm not going against what you have shown me just confused!?! Perhaps I am miss reading it which all these crazy long words hahaha

Oh I remember what Ivermectin is now.

I watched this guy do his whole flock in a matter of minutes and I couldn't believe why no one else used it, it was so easy. But now I see.lol. @Fancychooklady
.

Ivermectin is also used in ' spot on ' products. The second link I gave you explains the mechanism of the drug and the first link is specific to poultry. Ivermectin is infective for use in Northern fowl mites. Reported generally means within the study.
As with all things ' poultry ' people go along with whatever they have heard. Studies in poultry are limited and it is difficult to find one that is not biased by money.
The link on poultry parasites ( 1 st link ) also explains that some of these little buggers are minuscule and impossible to see with the naked eye. That explains why a lot of people say that they have checked their birds over and found nothing, yet the bird has red bald patches and is obviously suffering.
Just something to think about.

Very interesting information Fancy. Thank you for the links

On the weekend I had a photoshoot with some of my pets; yes including the chickens.
I was sent a couple of sneak peeks - unfortunately none with my chickens were included, but here's a couple that were.

Now you all know what I look like - puts a face to the name
