Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

Hooray for everyone's babies!! Spring needs to come right now so I can hatch more.

Bubbles the Dorking has gone broody on me, but I will not let her hatch eggs during the winter.

This is my first winter hatch, but I have a big brooder set up just in case. I figure the only way to have POL hens in January (when they are in demand ) is to hatch out July / August . These little Silkie hens stay broody regardless of what I do , so I may as well put them to work. I have 1 x BLRW pipped and zipped.

I agree with you Fancy. I will only use broodies to hatch eggs and Bubbles is still an immature bird, although she's laying (or was

) consistently. I don't think I could trust her at her age. I'm letting her sit for a while to gauge how determined she is, if she proves herself, she may earn herself some eggs to hatch later on.
I'm only really hatching eggs for myself as well

Any excess I don't want will be sold. After this coming Spring's hatches, I doubt I'll be doing any more until I need to replenish my flock.
