Hatched 12 chicks today out of 13 mostly Silkies.

I usually candle eggs under broodies at day 7 and day 14 to check for development, but these Marans eggs are too dark for me to be able to candle.  I'm just crossing my fingers and hoping for the best

Snowy laid an egg in the nest box today for the first time since she went broody.    I can't actually eat it because she still has access to the medicated chick starter, but I'm glad that she is back in peak condition.  It's taken ages, but in the last week her comb has rehydrated back to it's normal size and gone red.  She is still sleeping with and looking after her babies so I think she just loves being a mum.

Frizzylizzy. Good to have you on board. You most certainly can get Wyandottes in Tasmania. @Fancychooklady has them and she lives in Tassie

What breeds do you have now? Do you want them more as pets or as egg layers? I have a mixed bag for my flock - I have Araucanas, Faverolles, Welsummers, Sussex, Dorking, Black Sex Links, Opringtons, Plymouth Rock bantams and a Naked Neck frizzle bantam.
