Not sure how she managed to hide the eggs in there but she sure isn't moving . I'm not sure how many eggs she has I saw a few but I didn't really want to loose an eye from a broody pekin.

Last but not least. Me lecturing her sister and my roo on that's enough of the broodys for now.. Do you think they are listening

The mums finally budged off of the chick and I initially thought it was dead and picked it up.  Then it flexed inside the shell and I realized that it was actually only one or two good flexes from fully hatching.  Excellent.  It had started pipping only a bit over 24 hours ago and is nearly finished so I no longer feel any worry.

When I put the egg back I had a very tense moment where I worried they'd peck at it again but one of the hens instead quickly climbed on top and settled down.  I'm confident it will complete it's hatch and feel very relieved.

Certainly not wasted. I intend to continue hatching chicks. This is just my first time. I also have a severe anxiety disorder which probably isn't helping. The last several nights I've had nothing but dreams about dead and dying chicks.

Everything about this experience, the good, the bad and the painful is good because I am learning from it. With learning, comes experience.

I do the lawnmower maintenance : ) and all the other stuff. At least I know it isn't my hens keeping the lawn level so low now though. I have been wondering if it was them.

My new "Show Quality"" Light Sussex, growing up nicely.
I had to separate them from their hatch mates as they are now four times their size!
Can't wait to cross some with my new Indian Game.

This little fellow is showing a lot of promise - love the colour!

Lol, I had a lovely nurse visit last week. She said " oh your grounds are so well kept, who is your gardener ?" I said " that would be me. I'm the ' grounds keeper '
