Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

Thanks for the reply guys.

Yes did the seperation by cage thing for just over 2 weeks. Then introduced them and my 2 RIRs were the bullies so i removed and rehomed them. It has now been almost 2 weeks i think and there isnt really any fighting the 2 groups just stay away from each other. Occassionally when i feed them scraps the newbies wander slightly closer so one of the oldies will chase them off and give one peck but thats all. Theres no fighting since i removed those roosters they just wont merge at all! :-(

Started off with 6, the new lot is 3 hens. Of course then got rid of 2 so its now 4 and 3. The current agesare about 6 months originals and 3-4 months newbies. My chooks are freerangers if that makes any difference. Have wondered about not letting them out til later and forcing them to socialise but i think that would do more harm than good.

The younger ones stay close to the shed and only range about 5-10 metres sq and the older ones roam about 2-3 acres.

I did the integration thing at night, put the newbies outside the roost and let them get sorted...the newbies stayed apart till they got to figure that the oldies slept warm and comfy in the roost house.... They moved in on an unused roost as a threesome. Now few weeks later still perch in groups, mums, offspring, newbies but feed and forage as a flock.......it's taken WEEKS!!!

If any of you have sussed out my personality from my posts, I believe I am a fairly happy, easy going person.

Right now I am not myself!

If I could have one thing this Easter it would be for it stop raining so we can dry out!  Not going to happen, the forecast for Friday, Saturday and Sunday is more of the same.

For Sale:
1 x Hill’s Hoist Rotary Clothes Line!

Might as well sell it cos I can’t see me using it again!

Will trade for building material suitable for ark building!

Oh teila, cheer up . We all know that you are kind of heart and have a great sense of humour. Just picture the Easter bunny in gumboots. :)

lol .. thank you Fancy I needed a chuckle :)

I am starting to worry about my gals, it's just too wet; Cilla wouldn't come down the ramp today because of all the water everywhere. I am worried that if we do not get a chance to dry out soon they are going to get sick :(

I say, open up the yard and put in perforated pipe all over.

That's a good thought vehve but our soil is mostly clay so the holes would clog fairly quickly.

We normally cope because we have a chance to dry out; the current situation is because we are not getting that chance and we are at the point now that even the slightest bit of rain doesn't soak into the ground.

Teila, then gravel and landscaping cloth are your friends, along with the perforated pipe. If it's something that happens often, I would invest a couple of hundred on materials and a day or two for the work, and make the property drain properly.

In the springtime we slip and slide all over the place just trying to feed the horses. :)
Have you tried scattering a couple bales of straw or hay around their yard? It's only a temporary fix but so long as heavier animals or humans don't walk on it , it takes a lot of chooks to sink it in.

Hmmm. Yeah i put the new girls in at night on the same roost (has 4 levels, put them on the bottom one) so they knew it was toasty in there! Lol. Oh ok good so what ur saying is theres still hope then? Haha. Thx @Kooka
