I have quail eggs from Sydney quail man due to hatch on Sunday.

hey satay please post some pics when they hatch, i put 120 quail eggs in the bator on the 19th, i got 24 from a member of byc (kylesquails) , some really big eggs, hoping to start the program of jumbo quails in aussie land, a big thank you to kylesquails. i will separate his eggs when they hatch and keep the biggest females and males. i will do a weigh of mine and his quail chicks once a week( only the biggest ones i will weigh), and record the progress. i will post on the thread. the colour is not that important at this stage, the main aspect is growth/weight.

i will be using a gamebird starter which is 28% protein.

the 2 different bloodlines of quails will be in 2 separate brooders.

if anyone has any suggest please post, feedback would be great.

I will keep you up to date Sam. I can't wait to see your jumbos when they hatch I have yet to find a jumbo breeder up this way.

Just near the ice rink in Campsie.
My second girl started laying today. Her egg is even smaller than GLaDOS' first one! Not sure who laid it, though. I shall blow it and hang the shell for posterity.

I'm in the Hatch-A-Long too! I can't wait to see all the little chirpers!

Sam; Are you making a thread to document the process? If so, you could leave a note on the first post that you are interested in eggs from people who have large quail. That way you can still have more open bloodlines with out them becoming too inbred. And other people can contribute to your process

Most of these are the "mystery" eggs, but all look
like Barred Rocks to me.

Baby chicks have amazing instincts. One went straight to the water and had a big drink
the moment I put it in the brooder. How does it know what water is or what a water fountain looks like?

maybe they sense what is water and what is food, my quail chicks do the same. once one knows what to do, they all know where to go drink and feed.
